This issue is a test of fairness and of the genuine committment of our elected leaders to the people they represent. That holds true regardless of political party - but it presents an extra responsibility for Democrats. How can we believe in any progressive or liberal agenda if a Democratic White House and Congress does not get behind us and fight tooth and nail for this. How can Democrats expect to prevail in 2012 and beyond when the coming years will see the ruin of millions of formerly hard working Americans and a return to the homelessness and food lines of the Great Depression. The prosperity of a nation is measured by those in the greatest need not those enjoying the greatest wealth.
