Here are a few small ways you can conserve energy on your stovetop:

burner
  1. Reheating cooked items, whether it's on the stovetop or in the microwave is much more fuel efficient than cooking from scratch every time. So, next time you're preparing a meal, making a large amount and enjoy the leftovers!
  2. When you're boiling something like pasta, beans, rice, or anything that has been cooking in water for some time, set your timer one minute less than you're used to. When the timer goes off, shut off the burner and let it sit there for another minute. The pot will still be hot enough to continue cooking the goods inside for at least a minute.
  3. Do you usually wait for your kettle to sing before you go turn it off? To cut down on energy use, listen and watch: the kettle will make a low-roaring sound when the water begins to boil and small whispers of steam will come from the whistler long before it comes to the whistling point.
  4. Last, but not least, PUT A LID ON IT! when applicable.

Minimum Wage

Workers in BMW's auto plants in Germany make twice as much as US workers in BMW plants who make $15 an hour. Oh and by the way German workers get 35 days of vacation AND decent healthcare.

The tea party want to abolish the minimum wage. Did YOU VOTE?
