You will save on your hot water bill if you bundle the time you use hot water. The less you use a water heater, the more you save, so... can you wait to do the dishes or run the dishwasher to right before you shower?  Can that load of laundry wait until you're ready to do dishes? And as much as that morining shower feels good, try and limit the time.

When you don't bundle your hot water usage, the water heater repeatedly turns on and off during the day/evening, costing you money.  Having it only heat up once or twice is more efficient.

  • Load the washer, dryer and dishwasher completely before running the appliances.
  • By washing your clothes in cold water, you can see a 50-75% saving in energy use.
  • Clean the dryer's lint basket before loading the next laundry load. Many dryers now have an auto-sensing drying setting that will turn the unit off when the clothes are dry.
Showers and laundry can easily account for 60-75% of the water heating costs. An inexpensive way to save is to add a low flow shower head. This limits the amount of water coming out of the shower head.

Also dishwashers require hot water to perform at their peak performance, but you can save money by washing dishes by hand. The water usage may be about the same, but you're not using an electric device.

Minimum Wage

Workers in BMW's auto plants in Germany make twice as much as US workers in BMW plants who make $15 an hour. Oh and by the way German workers get 35 days of vacation AND decent healthcare.

The tea party want to abolish the minimum wage. Did YOU VOTE?
