Do you really have better odds of getting into an Ivy League school than scoring a job during this great recession? Of course there is more to getting into Harvard, or a new job, than just a dice roll. The Dept of Labor says there are about 5 unemployed for every available job. When was the last time you stood in line for a job with 4 others? Many NoJobSurvivors find their job applications competing with sometimes hundreds of others. So what are the odds as artificial as the statistics are?
A blogger friend at pinkslipsthenewblack recently applied with 249 others for two open positions. Thats 0.8% probability of landing one of those. The application success rate of applications to Harvard for the class of 2014 was 6.9%.
