kid in toy storeHow far will Repubicans go to genuflect to their corporate masters? All the way it seems even to risking the heath of our children.

As part of their slash-and-burn approach to governance, the Republican House has cut all the financing — some $3 million this year — for a core provision of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 safety bill: a database where consumers could report product hazards and the public could check products before buying them.

What has this to do with Nojobsurvivors? Not much unless you have small children. Other than show the extent that Republicans will wallow in the mud on behalf of their corporate benefactors.

Remember back when following the recall of millions of toys from China because of lead paint and other hazards, Congress got its act together in 2008 and passed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act? Bipartisan majorities rallied around the idea that the government should ensure that products — whether they’re made abroad or here — won’t sicken or maim American consumers or their children.

And there is a lot of lead out there. Since the new law has passed, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued 26 recalls because of lead paint in toys.

Workers in BMW's auto plants in Germany make twice as much as US workers in BMW plants who make $15 an hour. Oh and by the way German workers get 35 days of vacation AND decent healthcare.

And why does Germany's Manufacturers do so well?
