The latest scam to hit the unemployed is a "Mystery Shopper" scam. If you receive an "invitation" to become a mystery shopping employee with an enclosed check, do NOT deposit the check. It is fake.
During the last two weeks I received two job offers, one purportedly from BMA Mystery Shopping and one from Whaler Financial Services. Both letters looked legitimate, and both had sizeable checks made out to me, one for $1560 and the other $3485. The checks are purportedly for buying goods at reputable stores and include your first weeks pay estimated to be over $100 per hour. Great huh? The big red scam alert flag? You "mystery shop" Western Union and telegraph a sizeable piece of the check to a location to be given to you by an alleged Bray or BMA employee.
The authorities are only just catching up on this scam, so beware.
A "mystery shopper" scam is making the rounds in Jackson County, authorities warn.
People from outside the U.S. are essentially stealing the name of a legitimate business, BMA Mystery Shopping, to perpetrate a fraud, according to a press release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
Intended victims get a letter and a check with instructions on what to do with the check. Residents are being warned not to send or transfer any money as the letter requests, law enforcement officials advise. The letter is not from BMA.
For me? I am forwarding the letters to the FBI.
Workers in BMW's auto plants in Germany make twice as much as US workers in BMW plants who make $15 an hour. Oh and by the way German workers get 35 days of vacation AND decent healthcare.
