The Democratic House and Senate Leadership are burning lots of political capital to pass HR4213 this month. HR4213 supposedly "extends unemployment benefits" to the end of the year but there is a lot of confusion and misinformation about what it actually will do for the unemployed.

What does HR4213 actually do for the unemployed? It extends the filing deadline for Tiers 3 and 4 Extended Unemployment Comensation (EUC) from May 29 to either December 31, 2010 or November 30, 2010 depending on which version of the bill passes. Note that not all states were eligible for Tier 3 or 4 EUC as of May 29. Click here to check your State's EUC  eligibility.

  • You live in a state that qualifies for Tier 3 and you ran out of Tier 2 benefits after May 29 -- Unless HR4213 passes you are out of luck.
  • You live in a state that qualifies for Tier 4 EUC and you ran out of Tier 3 benefits after May 29 -- You are out of luck unless HR4213 passes soon.
  • You live in a state that doesn't qualify for Tier 4 EUC and you have run out of Tier 3 EUC -- You are out of luck regardless of the successful passage of HR4213.
  • You live in a state that qualifies for Tier 4 EUC and you have run out of benefits -- You are out of luck regardless of the passage of HR4213.
  • You live in a state that does not qualify for Tier 3 or Tier 4 EUC -- You are out of luck regardless of the passage of HR4213.

In short, succesful HR4213 does NOT help the 99'ers or the 93'ers! Lets make sure HR4213 passes soon but we also need a Tier 5 to help the millions of long term unemployed. Please contact your local Congress person or Senator and make sure you sign our "Tier 5 Now" Petition.

Also check the "Does Your State Qualify for EUC"  page for the latest status of EUC and EB.

Minimum Wage

Workers in BMW's auto plants in Germany make twice as much as US workers in BMW plants who make $15 an hour. Oh and by the way German workers get 35 days of vacation AND decent healthcare.

The tea party want to abolish the minimum wage. Did YOU VOTE?
