How to Prepare for a Job Fair

When attending a local job fair you're likely to be one of thousands of job seekers competing for few jobs. There will be at least 6 job seekers for each job according to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics... and we know those stats are low-balled.

Malcolm Munro, author of Marketing Yourself for Your Dream Job: How to Get the Job and Career You've Always Wanted has some handy tips to increase your chances of beating out those other 5 job seekers in the video at the end of this article.

Malcolm's tips:

As with any "normal" job application be prepared by doing your homework.

• Find out which companies will be participating in the Job Fair.
• Go to their websites and see which positions they have open.
• Make a list of your target employers and prioritize them as "A", "B", or"C".
• Develop targeted resumes for your "A" list companies and possibly your "B" category employers.
• Make sure your resume indicates your qualifications for the positions they have open.
• Get to the Job Fair early with your tailored resumes.

Your resume preparation should be no different than if you were applying for from a job board or referall.
